Mango Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 22, 2026

Mango is built and maintained by AM2 LLC ("we", "us"). Mango is a manga and comic reader for files you already own. It is designed so that we collect nothing about you.

Summary

  • Mango collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no ads.
  • Your comics are never sent anywhere but a NAS of your own, and only when you tap Upload. Mango reads them in place from the folders you choose, and only copies, moves or deletes one when you ask it to (Download, Move into Mango, Remove Download, Find Duplicates).
  • Nothing you do in Mango leaves your device unless you connect it to a server you control (your NAS), or you tap Find Cover or Look Up Series — which send only the name of the series you're looking up.

What stays only on your device

  • The list of folders you added, stored as iOS security-scoped bookmarks.
  • The library index Mango builds from your filenames (series, volume and chapter numbers, page counts) and cover thumbnails extracted from page one of each comic.
  • Your reading position in each book, bookmarks, ratings, and reading direction, layout, and display preferences.
  • How long you read, counted on your device for the Stats tab.
  • Covers you choose with Find Cover or from your own photos.
  • Any corrections you make by hand to a title, series, volume, or chapter.
  • Comics you download from a NAS, saved into Mango's own folder (visible in the Files app).

If you back up your device with iCloud or your computer, that copy of Mango's data is governed by Apple's privacy practices, not ours.

Sync across your devices

  • If you use iCloud, Mango keeps your reading positions, bookmarks, ratings, reading log, and daily reading-time totals in sync across your own devices using Apple's iCloud key-value storage.
  • That data goes only to your private iCloud account. It never touches a server of ours, and we never see it. Your comics are not uploaded by this sync.
  • To turn it off, disable iCloud Drive for Mango in Settings; the app then keeps everything on-device only.

Network access

Mango makes network connections only to servers you add yourself under Sources > Add a NAS share. It connects over SMB to the address you type in, using the credentials you provide, which are stored in the iOS Keychain and never written to the library file.

Mango has no backend. There is no server of ours for it to talk to, and it never contacts an analytics endpoint, ad network, or online comic catalog.

Two optional buttons look things up online, and only when you tap them. Find Cover searches MangaDex, AniList, and Apple's iTunes Search API for cover art, sending the series name (and, for one volume, its volume number). Look Up Series searches AniList with the series name so you can pick its proper title and author. Nothing else about you or your library is sent, and nothing is looked up in the background.

Those services receive the request like any web request (including your IP address) and handle it under their own privacy policies. We receive nothing.

What we never do

  • We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any data about you or your library.
  • We never see what you read, when you read it, or how long for. Reading time is counted on your device for your own Stats, and synced only through your own iCloud.
  • We do not show ads, and there is no tip jar, subscription, or in-app purchase.
  • We do not host, index, or supply any comics. Mango reads only the files you already have.

Children

Mango collects nothing from anyone, including children. Note that Mango displays whatever files you point it at, so the content you see is entirely the content you supply.

Open source

Mango is free software under the GPL-3.0. You can read every line of it at github.com/vanities/mango and verify all of the above for yourself.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated date at the top of this page will change with it.
